Bad Neighborhood – A web page that has been penalized by a search engine (most notably Google) for using shady SEO tactics, such as hidden text or link farms.


Backlinks – Links from another web page to your web page. Most search engines provide an easy way to get a list of all of the backlinks to a specific page. Also referred to as Incoming Links.


Backlink Title Keyword Density DFI &mdash This is a measurement of the density of applicable keyword(s) found in the title tag of the site linking to your own. The value is that of a distribution frequency index, which organizes the recorded distribution frequency backlink title keyword density values from minimum to maximum observed values.


Backlink Anchor Text Keyword Density (DFI) — This is a measurement of the density of applicable keyword(s) found in the anchor text of the site linking to your own. Backlink Quality — It is important that the sites which choose to link to your site have a high quality in important areas, in order to maximize the benefit to your site. Poor quality sites linking to your site have little negative effect on your site, but good quality sites can really benefit your site.


Backlink TAI Distribution Frequency Index — This is a measurement of the theme relevancy of backlinks to your site. To maximize the benefit of backlinks, it is important that the site linking to your site have some theme similarity to your own.


Backlink Quantity — This is a measurement of the number of backlinks meeting the ever changing search engines’ quality criteria, linking to your site.


Benefit statement – Benefit statements express how your company's product or service solves an immediate need and clarifies a specific unique sales proposition. These statements are written in a "What's in it for me?" fashion where company features are immediately linked to client benefits.

Benefit statements may be different for different target groups, depending on their motivations. Typical benefit statements are linked to such bottom-line motivators as: saving time, saving or making more money, helping someone be more attractive to the opposite sex, streamlining operations, gaining new clients, gaining an industry niche or power, et cetera.


Body Word Count— Body word count is the amount of words found in the body of your web page, including permanently visible text, as well as text stored on the page which is visible only under special circumstances such as a mouseover. There is virtually no limit to how many words you can have on each web page. All this text is visible to the search engine spiders.


Body Keyword Proximity— This is the proximity between the keywords within a keyword phrase consisting of two or more words, based on the plane-sweep algorithm. The higher the number, the better. Single keywords will have a value of “–1”.


Body Keyword Density— Body keyword density is the density of keywords found in the body of your web page, including permanently visible text, as well as text stored on the page which is visible only under special circumstances such as a mouseover. All this text is visible to the search engine spiders.


Brochureware – Brochureware is a negative term that denotes a print brochure being uploaded, without revision, as Web page text.

Brochureware is always counterproductive and should be avoided at all costs. It doesn't take into account the interactivity of Web copy, nor is it typically written in a user-centric manner. Brochureware sites tend to see poor search engine positioning until the pages are rewritten for Web conversions.


Broken Link – A link that no longer takes the user to the destination page when it is clicked on. This is usually the result of the destination page having been renamed or deleted from the server. Also referred to as a Dead Link.
